Game Demo's 12-2-10

Our game demos helped me see that our game isn't doing to be easy. It also showed me that everyone else is going to have problems creating their games, but we will pull it off. In your game demo's you never want to use dark fonts on dark backgrounds, or light fonts on light backgrounds.I learned that we should always use spell checks because we aren't the best spellers and we had a lot of spell errors on our game demos.

Adding Sound 11-19-10

In our game I'm going to put sound on it.Since our game is about football I plan to put a beat or a classic rock song that gets faster and faster as the other people get closer and coser.I think that it will make our game better because when the player hears the beat he/she will get pumped up and will get into the game.

How Do I Like Flash??? 11-12-10

I like flash, but sometimes it can be a pain in the rear.I like flash because it is fun and easy. It can teach you a lot about computers and can tell you a lot about yourself. If you want to you can go to my projects page and click on my flash links and see how flash actionscript works. This week we were working on game demos, so here is a video of one.

Adding Animations 11-5-10

Adding Animations was the second easiest unit. The easiest was adding buttons. Here is a link to my projects page.http://myglife.org/usa/wv/srmswiki/index.php/User:Bolen96/Projects-8th_Grade_Globaloria_Fall_2010 .These animations stick out because the picture deals with football and my game is about football.

My Struggles and Success 10-29-10

So far I have got the tittle scene, the about scene, the help scene, and the choose a player scene. My struggles have been with the choosing a scene because I can't draw the players good.My success is in the about scene and the title scene.I'm looking forward to creating the game and playing the final demo.

Adding Buttons Blog 10-22-10

Adding buttons was really easy. The codes are easy to remember because I used them a lot last year. Buttons aren't that hard to make all you do is draw a shape , group them, convert it to a symbol, and put the code in. I didn't have to do any researching on this topic because I used it a lot last year to know what I'm doing.

Planning Your Game 10-15-10

I am showing them how to get equivalent fractions and decimals in a much easier way."What Would You Do?" uses storytelling in a great way. This game helped me because it has a great story and I want my game to have a great story.A website with great games is http://y8.com/.

Drawing A Scene 10-7-10

Drawing a scene has made me realize that this game is going to be harder than what I thought. It's going to be hard to make the football player throw the football. My flash skills are going to be put to the limit with this game.Mr.Lester is going to be a great help because he likes sports, and my class mates are going to be a great help because half of them play football for the middle school team.I believe that Mr.Lester is a great source because he don't lie.My classmates will be a great help because they are my friends and I trust them.

Paper Prototype 10-1-10

The Paper Prototype has shown me how much Heather is going to help and what our game is going to be about.Paper Prototype has made me change my ideas from a dirt bike game to a football game.I'm perfectly fine with the change because I LOVE football. We changed it from dirt bikes to football because we thought that football would be easier. Here's a cool football game that I'd like to base our game on!!!!

Imagining Your Game Blog 9-24-10

Well my game has to be on 8th grade math level so we picked fractions ,percents and decimals. So I am hoping for my game to be about football and i want it to deal with the new high school River View.I love there colors purple black and silver. So the way I am going to sit my game up is I am going to have a fraction lets say its 1/2 the player will have three answers to choose from .There going to have to take that answer and turn it in to a fraction decimal or percent it just depends what they are given to chose from. This game is going to teach them how to turn fractions into decimal if they don't know and percents into fractions. It will have a help scene which will guide you through this game .I am hoping to have at least 10 math equations in this game where you must turn the, into fractions, decimals ,and percents. This game is going to be fun and really learning to because i know how it is learning its so boring so where going to bring the boring out of work.

I am exited about seeing how me and Heather are going to work together and give each other roles.

Choosing a Topic 9-10-10

Hi, I'm Roger Bolen and my game topic is going to mathmatics.I like this topic because math is my favorite and best subject.

My first link is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mathmatics. This link helped me by telling me that the earliest uses of mathematics were in trading, land measurement, painting and weaving patterns and the recording of time.

My second link is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Math_games.This link helped me by telling me that a mathematical game is a multiplayer game whose rules, strategies, and outcomes can be studied and explained by mathematics.

My third link is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiplication .This link helped me by telling me that multiplication (symbol "x") is the mathematical operation of scaling one number by another.

Expectations 8-30-10

This year I hope to create and finish a great game.I expect that our game will be better than last years. This year our game topic will be mathmatics. It can't be two plus two.It has to be mathmatics in our grade level. This year I'm more excited than anything else because I know a little more about flash this year than last year.I'm excited because I've got a new partner and she is going to be a real help.

What I learned 6-2-10

I think that our game presentations went well.Stephen and I did extremely good.I think that everyone in our class and the eighth grade did the best that we could.

Stephen and my game got finished, but it could have used some touch ups and possibly another level.

This year I think that the one thing I learned was how to use and code action script. Mrs.Barker was a huge help with us this year. She taught us how to code action script and how to create our entire game.

Function Blog 5-13-10

In our game we used to have questions, but we decided to change the game completely.About one month ago Stephen and I were told that our game didn't relate to civics, so we had to change our game and start all back over.We decided to scrap our whole game and start from scratch. If I had the choice to add the questions again I wouldn't.

Function Blog 4-29-10

I commented on Matt from GEHS and also on Nick from GEHS.I commented on Matt because he talked about what he has finished.I commented on Nick because he talked about his presentation and how he used the internet to make his presentation better.

Function 4-22-10

Stephen and I are teaching about the Freedom of Expression, which is the first amendment. I would say that the hardest thing to teach about was the questions for the car scene.First we had to find facts for the car scene and then we had to make questions from the facts. Finding the facts was not hard, but thinking of the questions was quite hard.I thought to put this in our game so that the player will know what the Freedom of Expression is.We figured that if we gave them facts it would make the game a little more easier and interesting. After the facts and questions are given to the player he/she will arrive to the court and have to pick who they thought wasn't guilty by using the knowledge that they got from the facts that we gave them. The link to my page is http://www.myglife.org/usa/wv/srmswiki/index.php/User:Bolen96.

Function Blog 4-15-10

This week I was asked to make a blog about the way news and other sources might similalry manipulate information about civics.I believe that people try to show their own opinion, but sometimes they lie.If you are looking for some research don't write down the first thing you come to.Right now I don't have any advice for anyone besides work hard and if you do any more research look around the web before you write down anything off one site.

Function Blog 3-31-10

This week I was asked to pick someones game and compare their game demo to their paper prototype.I'm supposed to talk about the changes they made and the development of their game and some advice to help them with their demo. This week I choose team Tigers. The students in this team are Cassie and Heather.Their game is called Supreme Basketball.Last week I did my blog on Aaron and Andy.Their game title is "Hitler vs Stalin: Who Shall Win?".Here's the link to their team page http://www.myglife.org/usa/wv/shhswiki/index.php/Team:A-Team2. I think that when Cassie and Heather's game is finished it will be very helpful in civics. The game's topic is Freedom of Expression. When Cassie and Heather finish their game I think it will be great and I would love to play it again. The link to Cassie and Heather's team page is http://www.myglife.org/usa/wv/srmswiki/index.php/Team:Tigers.

Function Blog

I am going to share the most fun and easiest work from my team page. The easiest thing was probably the paper prototype.I picked this because it was fun and me and Stephen(Teammate) worked really hard together. The paper prototype relates to civics because it is about the Freedom of Expression.I think that our game relates to the function community because in the first scene you are in a car on the way to the court and facts will pop up about the Freedom of Expression. Then in the second scene you are still in the car, but this time instead of facts popping up it will be questions about the facts that we gave them.In the third scene you are at the court and the judge will tell you information about the case and then the lawyers are going to tell you their side of the story. In the fourth scene you are still at the court, but this time you just have to pick who you thought won the case.I think that me and Stephen worked together because I would do one scene and he would do the other. If one of us needed help we would be there for each other.Sometimes we would argue a little but we would eventually get through it and agree on something.I think that working with Stephen really made me realize who he really was.

How They Went!!!!

I think that the game presentations went well besides the fact that I used the wrong PowerPoint. I learned that our game needs a lot of work done with it. Yes we are going to probably rename our game and we are going to focus on one amendment. We realized that we need to focus on one amendment, change the title, and finish the game scenes.

We have two or three different topics, but the game presentations made us realize that we need to narrow it down to one.Like I said before we have two or three different topics, but we are going to narrow it down to one, but we don't know what one.We still need to do a little more research about the amendments and peoples rights. We might change our name, but we think that our name suits our game because it is a trivia game.We will add more scenes.

My New Year's Resolution

My new year resolution is to finish my game demo with ten levels.I would like to finish my game with ten levels because then I would have a better chance of winning the competition at the end of the year. I also want to win the best game competition at the end of the year. I would like to win the competition because I would get a free laptop with flash updated on it. If I win the competition I will thank Mrs. Barker for helping me in Flash and for never letting me give up.I would like my new year resolutions to come true so that I would get an A on my report card.
